Andre’s Rochester NY plant exchange was created in 2010 in order to promote the free perennial exchange in the Greater Rochester NY region. This group has been a huge success mentions Andre Alves from Rochester NY.  In our 2010-2011 season we were able to exchange over 100 types of perennial plants in Rochester NY.

I have been exchanging perennials with neighbors, family members and friends. One day I had the idea of creating a plant exchange website open to everyone in the Greater Rochester Community says Andre Alves from Rochester NY.

Andre Alves from Rochester NY says that over 100 types of perennial plants are available for exchange. Our members are very dedicated gardeners in the Rochester NY area. We also have members that specialize in rare and hard to find perennials.

I have several unusual perennials myself adds Andre Alves from Rochester NY. I was able to get a lot of them on trade. For some odd reason people are crazy for the Black Eyed Susan plants. I was able to find good homes for them. I had yellow and purple Black Eyed Susan plants.

Everyone has bought garden plants at their local garden store before. The last time I went to a big box store that sold perennial plants I spent close to $300 to get about a dozen varieties of perennials. After 2 years went by I had double of my original plant population says Andre Alves from Rochester NY.

Looking at my neighbor’s yard I saw the same problem I was having, perennial over population. Luckily a lot of their plants were different than the ones I had at the time. After talking to them we were able to promote an exchange and get a different plant diversity from each other.

My other neighbor saw what we were doing and jumped in the band wagon, soon we were able to quadruple our plant varieties without having to spend $200-$300 at the garden store. When I did the math says Andre Alves from Rochester NY I was able to save around $1000-$1200 dollars and be able to find homes for my perennial surplus.

 

The idea of the website came from my neighbor from across the street, says Andre Alves from Rochester NY. By creating a website we were able keep things organized and bring people from other parts of the city with a new variety of plants.

Currently I have 90+ perennial varieties, some of them are unusual and rare. I was able to work out a system where we get flowers from the early spring to late fall. Unfortunately the perennials hibernate during the cold winter months.

By working together we can develop a garden plan and promote the perennial exchange in Rochester NY. After I planted the vast variety of flowers at my house, my place looks gorgeous.
