Andre Alves Rochester NY Perennial Exchange Indoor Tropical Plants in Rochester
Andre Alves from Rochester NY founder of the Rochester NY Perennial Exchange Group noticed that a lot of our members also have many tropical plants inside their homes. Indoor tropical plants are great for anyone looking to have a plant that stays green year round. Many of the tropical plants can have gorgeous flowers and add a lot of character and personality to any home.
With that in mind Andre Alves from Rochester NY plans to create his second plant exchange group in the greater Rochester area. If you are a plant lover and enjoy any type of plants in Rochester (indoor and outdoor), the Indoor Tropical Plant Exchange Group in Rochester NY may be perfect for you or someone you know.
Tropical indoor plants are a little bit different from the outdoor perennial plants we are used to seeing around Rochester NY. Tropical plants stay green all year round, they cannot go outside in the winter or at any freezing temperatures, otherwise they will die and will not come back. Perennial plants will return after a few cold winter months.
Not a lot of tropical indoor plants can be grown from seeds, many perennials can be planted from seeds and they do very well during the course of one or two years depending on the plant, soil conditions, seed quality and amount of water they get during the course of the summer. Some plants need to be on a tropical like environment where the air is very humid and the weather really hot, in many cases they don’t do well as house plants. The ones that can live indoors (at your home or office) can do really well if properly cared for it.

House plants also require the basic care needs, they require plant food (this can be given to them twice or three times per year as long as you space it between four or six months.) Make sure that they get water at least once per week, during the cold months while your heater is on (your home can get very dry because of the forced hot air) check your plants in order to see if they need more water. If more water is needed then adjust accordingly, the most important thing is to make sure your indoor plants are getting the proper nutrients and being watered properly.
“Too much water can cause the plant roots to rot and too little water can cause your indoor plants to dry out” mentions Andre Alves from Rochester NY. Andre has been growing tropical indoor plants, perennial plants and violets for quite some time in the Rochester NY area. The Rochester Perennial Exchange Group was created in order for plant lovers to be able to trade, talk about plants, gather ideas, make their homes prettier and share the knowledge and experience when it comes to plants in the greater Rochester NY area.
Not all tropical indoor plants do well in the Rochester NY area; many plants require the heat and humidity only found in tropical places. In many cases we do not get to see a large variety of tropical indoor plants in colder climate areas. If you ever get a chance to go to Costa Rica, Brazil, Mexico or any other tropical country you will be able to see many exotic tropical plants not found anywhere in Rochester NY. “I have tried to grow passion fruits in Rochester NY, however the plant got to be really big 8+ feet tall and during the course of 10 years I was never able to produce a single fruit” mentions Andre Alves from Rochester NY.
